Gig Report: The Horn, St. Albans (12th July 2011)

Drum Solo ‘Twas the night before Wednesday and all was calm, except in a small corner of Hertfordshire that is home to Roman Ruins, Cathedral and a Pound-stretcher. St. Albans was the place in question and in a small car park where the band weren’t allowed to park was Josh, reversing his car into the space with utmost precision. Admittedly, the precision wasn’t immediate and Matt looked on with bemusement as Josh made sixteen attempts to park his car.

Now a Tuesday night in St. Albans is hardly the most happening of times to play a gig. The band were nervous that their exploits would go unrewarded. Luckily their worries proved unnecessary as a small community of people descended on the venue who proved to be the most fearless of warriors as they faced the barrage of music that is Le Monnier. They are a local gang known as the ‘AP Massive’, but despite the scary name, they were an excellent audience.

The trouble with gigs in general, is that there is often a long wait before the band go on stage. This bit of time between arriving and going on stage frustrates Josh and Matt immensely. So whilst everyone was involving themselves in polite conversation and lots of backslapping, they proceeded to chromatically tune everyones’ drinks and play a selection of Christmas Carols using the plastic stirrers. This made time pass rather nicely.

The evening had the theme of meeting new people and the band has acquired a new band friend whose name is Jon West. Jon is a tuna salesman who works in Southwest London and is the most amiable of chaps. I’m sure in the future we’ll be hearing much more from Jon and his exploits with the band.

So to the gig – Armed with a great crowd and a killer setlist, Le Monnier did what they do best and rocked out. Simple. ‘The Beginning’ was played live for the first time and it’s a great set opener. Also receiving it’s debut was the DRUM SOLO which we’ve been longing to do for quite a while (see above picture). This involves Josh drumming like a hyena on speed whilst Matt throws drumsticks at him from across the stage. Unfortunately, Matt throws like a fat 14 year old girl in a school rounders match which means not all of them arrive in Josh’s hand. Nevertheless, it looked and sounded awesome and they’ll definitely be doing it again.

So that’s that. Another cool gig with a great crowd. The band will be back in a few weeks with a gig on the other side of London. See you then.

P.S. No random shopping list this time around as the only thing you can buy in St. Albans at 10pm is a selection of alcoholic drinks and kebabs made from the meat of a dead Alsatian.

Oh and once again, everything written above actually happened.

Setlist:

The Beginning
Save Yourself
Con Amor Siempre
On That Road Again
